200 million using illegal drugs
A new report estimates that world-wide about 200 million people are involved in using illegal drugs. An article about the report appears in Addiction Treatment Magazine. The magazine is kind enough to share stories with us. You can use the link at the right side of the page or <click here> to read it. The full report is published in The Lancet, a respected British medical magazine. Focusing on Canada and the United States, the research discloses that the numbers of people who used illicit drugs at least once during 2009 broke down into the following subtotals: cannabis, 32.5 million; opioids, between 1 and 1.6 million; amphetamines, 3.4 million; and cocaine about 5.7 million. Note: In reporting this story, AddictionBattles, in keeping with its policy, does not make a criticism or judgment of those who are involved in using these substances. However,we do support the dissemination of truthful information in an effort to shed light on the subject and encourage an intelligent and rational discussion about it. -- Jim
