Alcohol is still major problem for young adults.

Lest we forget, in spite of recent headlines about the tragic results of binge drinking, we need to remember that (other substances competing substances notwithstanding), alcohol continues as the major abuse threat for many young people.  The folks at SAMSHA have a new report that reveals startling statistics about the problem with alcohol among college students.  During 2009, nearly half of the abuse admissions of college or post-high school  people, ages 18 to 24 involved alcohol (non-students in that age bracket showed a 30% admission rate). Researchers pointed out the confirmation of many opinion's that alcohol is a major problem on many campuses.
The in and out of school groups showed nearly equal admission rates of around 30% relating to marijuana.  On the other hand, non-students in the age category showed higher admissions for heroin, other opiates, cocaine and methamphetamine.  A SAMSHA release is here and the chart is from the SAMSHA report, to see it <click here>
