$6 billion to keep drug offenders in prison
A report that is getting a bit stale lists some startling amounts being spent on the 'War on Drugs'. One example, shows $6.2 billion spent in 2007 to keep drug offenders in jail. The math: about $67 a day per inmate and over a quarter million inmates for drug offenses, nets out to $17 million a day or $6.2 billion a year! That's just one of the costs shown.
